  • The photograph must be between (35-40mm) wide and (45-50mm) high.
  • The photographs must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the photograph, and include the top of the shoulders.
  • Be taken with a neutral expression and your mouth closed (not laughing or frowning).
  • Must Show the edges of your face (hair out of face).
  • The size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 32 mm and 36 mm.
  • The photographs must be identical and taken within the last six months.
  • The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or light-coloured background.
  • If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.
  • Photographs must be printed on quality photographic paper.

UK Passport and Visa Photos Requirements

  • It must measure 45mm high and 35mm wide (45mm x35mm)
  • Must be printed to a professional standard & taken within the last month
  • In colour on plain white photographic paper with no border
  • Must be taken against a plain cream or light grey background, clear and in focus without any creases or tears
  • Must be unmarked on both sides (unless a photo needs to be countersigned)
  • Not altered by computer software
  • Must be a close-up of your full head and upper shoulders and contain no other objects or people
  • Must be in clear contrast to the background
  • Be facing forward and looking straight at the camera
  • Must have a neutral expression and your mouth closed

Indian OCI Visa Photos Requirements

  • The photo should be 2 inches by 2 inches (51mm x 51mm).
  • The photo should be close of head and top of shoulders so that face takes up 70%-80% of the photo.
  • The skin tone should be natural and should have appropriate brightness and contrast.
  • The image should be straight looking, centered with neutral expression.
  • The eyes must be open and hair should not cover the face.
  • If glasses are worn then should be clear and thin framed and should not have flash reflection or cover the eyes.
  • Head coverings, hair, head-dress or facial ornaments should not cover the face.
  • The photograph must be taken in a colored attire, for example, a medium blue shirt etc.
  • The attire should not be patterned or textured or pure white.
  • The photo must have WHITE background.
  • There must be no other people or object in the background of the photo.
  • The lighting must be uniform and should not have any shadows on the face or behind.
  • Red eye photos will not be permissible.
  • Photo should not be older than 6 months.
  • Photo should not be folded or have any crease or line on it

US Passport and Visa Photos Requirements

  • The Photo must be In color
  • Sized such that the head is between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (22 mm and 35 mm) or 50% and 69% of the image total height from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. View the Photo Composition Template for more size requirement details.
  • Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance
  • Taken in front of a plain white or off-white background
  • Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera
  • With a neutral facial expression and both eyes open
  • Taken in clothing that you normally wear on a daily basis
  • Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily.
  • Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline, unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.
  • Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable in your photo.
  • Effective November 1, 2016, eyeglasses are no longer allowed in new visa photos, except in rare circumstances when eyeglasses cannot be removed for medical reasons; e.g., the applicant has recently had ocular surgery and the eyeglasses are necessary to protect the applicant eyes. A medical statement signed by a medical professional or health practitioner must be provided in these cases.
  • If the eyeglasses are accepted for medical reasons:

  • The frames of the eyeglasses must not cover the eye(s).
  • There must not be glare on eyeglasses that obscures the eye(s).
  • There must not be shadows or refraction from the eyeglasses that obscures the eye(s).
  • If you normally wear a hearing device or similar articles, they may be worn in your photo.
